Community Development
In 2022, Humana People to People Foundation continued its long standing support for developing communities for the rural and urban poor by granting USD 60,000 to HPP working in 10 states in India.
Sustainable community development requires integrated measures, time, involvement of the people concerned and political support in addition to adequate funding.
Extreme Poverty in India continues to be a major hindrance towards the path of development. It results in inferior housing, homelessness, inadequate nutrition, food insecurity, and deficient childcare, lack of access to health care, education, which directly impacts the future of the children. As per the Niti Aayog’s first Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) report released in November 2021, states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh have registered the highest poverty rate across India.
Humana People to People India (HPPI), in its endeavor to combat this severe challenge of poverty in India, started Community Development Projects in 1998. Since then it has been persistently working towards improving the living conditions of people and is striving to align with the Sustainable Development Goals. The Community Development projects in India are based on the understanding that people and communities across the globe need support to build strength; help to organize in local democratic structures and get the skills, knowledge and understanding they need to make changes together.
Our Community Development programs build on the people’s ability to face challenges and move forward together. We support social cohesion and together we find opportunities to progress.
